Hello all,I guess we asked for the aerial spraying to be halted to give us time to mount a protest and we have seriously gotten that time. The meeting here at my office didn’t eventuate owing to the weather and I am afraid the Saturday Peace Pole gathering, protest march and Debate at the Community Centre is not looking good.If perchance the weather gives us a window of opportunity on Saturday, I have 50 of these suits shown below for us to wear and breathing masks as well. It will look quite spectacular if we have suitable signage as well. I have 30 XL, 20 Medium sizes half in white and half in blue. They are a little rainproof but we will need umbrellas as well. I will be there regardless of the weather so any hardy soul who wishes to venture out, I have decided to make my stand, alone or otherwise.
I have booked the Community Centre for 5pm, with the larger room as a possible if we do get some big numbers.Attached is a letter from Manjari. She felt the need to make a clear request for all to join in this protest on Saturday and I agreed to send her letter out to all of you.It is very important we make a stand and since we will probably not get such good coverage in the Echo again, this is probably our best chance to show in unity of numbers that we will not be quite about this issue.I have been documenting dozens of horror stories of previous sprayings from locals who have experienced first hand the audacity of the authorities who have allowed this form of weed eradication to continue unabated.I have invited these people to tell their story at the Community Centre on Saturday. A local who lives on Lighthouse Road noticed a helicopter on Monday over the Lighthouse and called her friend who works there. He confirmed they were dropping the chemical via a long hose hanging down from the bottom of the helicopter. See link of last years aerial spraying if you didn’t get it in the last group email. A lot of my emails went to spam because I didn’t put a subject matter in. I apologize We are now up on Twitter and there is a blog - go to www.byronbitou.blogspot.comI haven’t posted very much yet but it would seem to be the easiest way to keep in touch and to share these “toxic chemical exposure” stories. The most frightening story is of the people who have been presenting to a doctor in Kingscliffe with Leukemia at a rate of 4 to 5 a week. They live in close proximity to the areas which have been aerial sprayed for the past 4 or 5 years. I have heard they are mounting a class action against the authorities. I am confirming this information and will let you know in the next email. Please pass this email on to your friends. I am finding it hard to keep my spread sheet up to date and sincerely apologize if I miss people out on the list. I get dozens of emails a day which I try to answer personally but coupled with a heavy work load, grandma duties, I am swamped. So I hope to see you all on Saturday. May the force of numbers carry us through to a safe chemical free shire.Regards,RoseRed Rose Realty5 Byron St02 6680 9505Fax 02 6685 8802rose@redroserealty.comwww.redroserealty.com
